BUGS
Here you will find all known bugs & infos to configure Qiana Studio 64bit:
_________________________________________________________________ATTENTION: Since the end of 2016 there were found two important security-issues in old Linux Kernel: CVE-2016-5195 (DirtyCow) and: CVE-2016-8655!
It’s recommend to make a kernel-upgrade via synaptic to:
Kernel Linux 4.4.0-59-lowlatency x86_64 (and higher)or to install the new QStudio64 Xi, which includes all patchesl!
2018: To patch SPECTRE/MELTDOWN - CVE-2017-5715/5753/5754
upgrade your Kernel-Linux to 4.4.0-124-lowlatency or higher!Choose linux-lowlatency-lts-xenial in Synaptic to get complete kernel-upgrades! ( sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade )
Install/upgrade your Intel/AMD-microcode & NVIDIA-graphic-driver.
2019: THE UBUNTU/LINUX MINT LTS-PERIOD FOR UPDATES IS OVER!
The Palemoon-Repos from StevePusser/open-suse is outdated! You can delete it in your sources.lists!
Chromium is outdated since May 2019 with ending of the Ubuntu-LTS-period!
It’s recommend to use Opera or Vivaldi-Browser instead! (Video-Support: [1] & [2] )
With all Kernel-/Browser-Upgrades you can use our system until 2021, also you can check our new Release: https://qstudio64.tumblr.com/ ;-)
Stay tuned!

Keyboard-Layout:Qiana Studio comes in english by default.
Choose your favourite language & keyboard-layout during installation!
NOTE: Apply your language & keyboard-settings after first-boot in control-center!To change the language on a pure usb/sd-live-system, you have to burn Qiana Studio-image on an usb-stick or bootable sd-card with a persistence-volume of min. 2GB to save settings!
After reboot the live-system comes with choosen language and saves updates!Soundcards:
HARDWARE-SUPPORT
more: http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Matrix:Main
Most class compliant usb-interfaces will work “out-of-the-box”!For supported firewire-interfaces look at: http://ffado.org/?q=devicesupport/list
Multiple soundcards:.
Choose your favourite soundcard in player-settings and/or in Cadence (JACK)!In same cases you just need to write the desired index of your soundcards
(as root) to /etc/modprobe.de/alsa-base.conf at the end of the conf-file:type: gksudo pluma /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
example for usb-soundcard as first soundcard:
options snd_usb_audio index=0
options snd_hda_intel index=1
options snd_hda_intel index=2 #prevents HDMI is default
options snd_aloop index=3To find out the right names of your soundinterfaces type in terminal:
cat /proc/asound/cards
List of Kernel-Modules:
cat /proc/asound/modules
NOTE: Read the Soundcards-INFO in /home/README!
ICECAST BLUETOOTH
QStudio64 prefers ALSA and JACK as main soundsystem without PA:
Take the .debs in README-folder If you want/need reinstall Pulseaudio!
After that: reinstall the “KXStudio-default-settings” with Synaptic.
Different Desktop-Environments
Qiana Studio comes with great and lightweight MATE-desktop.
If you want to change your DE you have to install the Cinnamon,
KDE or XFCE-meta with softwarecenter or Synaptic packetmanager!
-> Be sure to disable “autologin” & “Remember last user” in MDM
-> Restart computer!
-> Login with your favourite DE-session
It’s recommend to decide for one desktop-environment and NOT to switch!
(-> QStudio64 was made with&for MATE DE! Do it by your own risk!)bug 173-rxc-01 Mdm-Login-Manager
–> Not able to switch between different login-Screens, MintX always default
This problem just appears if you choosed “pw-login” instead of “auto-login” at install!
To prevent this issue choose “autologin” at your first install of Qiana Studio.
After install you can activate password-login and switch between the login-screens.
To solve this create a file named mdm.conf in /etc/mdm with root-rights!
example:
[daemon]
AutomaticLoginEnable=false
AutomaticLogin=studio #studio =USERNAME!
TimedLoginEnable=false
TimedLogin=studio #studio =USERNAME!
TimedLoginDelay=10
Greeter=/usr/lib/mdm/mdmgreeter
[greeter]
GraphicalTheme=FreeSansGrrl
HTMLTheme=Mint-X
Grub-Menu:
If you wanna hide grub-menu at boot, modify grub in /etc/default:
GRUB_DEFAULT=0
GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT=5
GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT_QUIET=true
GRUB_TIMEOUT=0
GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR=`lsb_release -i -s 2> /dev/null || echo Debian`
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=“quiet splash”
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=“”
GRUB_DISABLE_OS_PROBER=true
# Set this if you hide grubmenu at boot! hidden-timeout has to be 0-10
# NOT recommend with dual-boot systems
# Type ESC/ENTER at boot to make grub-menu visible again!
# in this case hidden-timeout has to be 3-10
Type: sudo update-grub in terminal to apply changes!bug 173-sx-03 (Keyboard-layout-mdm):
Qiana Studio just saves your choosen language that you applied after install as system default (see above “Keyboard-Layout”)!
If you change the language after this again, you maybe will find your old keyboard-layout in mdm-login! s. https://github.com/linuxmint/mdm/issues/5
Attention: If you used difficult passwords with special signs you maybe can’t login!
(or you just have to know where to find the right letters on new layout ;)
To fix this, just open as root: gksudo pluma /etc/default/keyboard
and change your default tastatur-layout:
XKBLAYOUT=“en”
XKBVARIANT=“”
Write your favourite language like “de” “fr” “es” “us”.. to XKBLAYOUT!
Use CTRL-ALT-F1 and login with your username and password.
Type: setupcon
After reboot your new language-keyboard-layout works in mdm-login (and terminal boot) too.
To check the keyboard-layout you can type in terminal:
cat /etc/default/keyboard
Note: This just happens if you change your keyboard-layout after install again!
If you choosed your right language and keyboard-layout during the install-process,
everything will work fine and you just have to follow STEP 1 from FIRST STEPS to
apply your choosen language system-wide!

some Linux Mint-updates could overwrite the default QS64-Bootscreen
-> go as root to: /lib/plymouth/themes/mint-logo
–> Rename and backup “logo.png” to “lmlogo.png”!
–> Rename QSLogo1copy.png to “logo.png”!
This is the original QS64-Bootscreen! If you prefer an alternative bootscreen, you can take and rename one of the other QSLogo-files finding in your plymouth-folder (/lib/plymouth/themes/mint-logo).type in terminal: sudo update-initramfs -u
to apply changes!
bug 173-xt-03 Firefox 52
Firefox needs pulseaudio since version 52 to have sound.
—> We replaced FF with Chromium, Palemoon & Midori!
NOTE: Read everything about this Have No Sound-issue!UPGRADES FROM OLDER VERSIONS
(REV. SE/OS/SX/XT):
Keyrings Password-Reset:In SE/SX the keyring-passphrase is the same like in live-system!
To prevent password-issues, reset the keyrings passphrase:
Type in terminal:rm /home/USER/.local/share/keyrings/login.keyring
rm /home/USER/.local/share/keyrings/user.keystore
(Write your given user-name instead of “USER”!)
Restart the computer!
Now the keyring got the same pw that you choosed for system.OPENVPN-UPGRADE:
If you can’t establish an openvpn-connection in network-manager
you have to upgrade openvpn with this great guide:
Debian / Ubuntu: OpenVPN apt repositories:
https://community.openvpn.net/openvpn/wiki/OpenvpnSoftwareRepos
After this openvpn works just fine with terminal!
1) Download the ovpn-config-file from your vpn-provider (and unpack it if it is a tz.gz/7z/zip-file)
2) Go in terminal to the unpacked VPN-file/folder: cd /home/folder
3) sudo openvpn –config XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXX.ovpn
to start your vpn-connection!
(Replace “XXX” with the letters or name of your given openvpn-config-file!)ARDOUR-UPGRADE: Ardour 5.x.x is available now!
Users of QStudio64 OS /SE /SX should upgrade via Synaptic.
During first start it will copy and backup all your old project files.(For older and slower machines we recommend version 3 or 4.7.)
Check also the great Ardour-Manual: http://manual.ardour.org/

DEVELOPMENT
Qiana Studio is under active development by community and a small team.Important bugfixes, improvements, new apps or kernel-upgrades we put in new releases - shown by the two letters after the LM revision-counter 17.3 “XY”!
There are no “alphas” and “betas” or “RC’s” - every release is well tested, stable and ready to work and gets updates < 2019!
Since revisions OS/SE there is also no need for reinstall to a new version:
Just make a kernel-upgrade, reset your keyring, upgrade ardour (see above)!
NOTE: To upgrade from Rev. SX to XT you only have to reset your keyrings and update ardour 4.7 to version 5.x via synaptic without a kernel-upgrade!
For not so advanced users it’s recommend to install the last version:
